Every class will have an organic flow, following the needs and theme of the day. But the basic structure will be:

~15 minutes body, brain and breath warm-up

~15 minutes yoga poses, integrating poses and breathwork

~15 minutes play, yoga related games

~15 minutes creative meditation, relaxation, visualization

Yoga builds physical and emotional fitness, lays a foundation for a lifetime of health, and it teaches life skills.

Each unique class will consist of 4 main yoga tools:

1) Breathing and "Learning Ready" exercises (think Brain Gym, Educational Kinesiology): Conscious breathing and Brain/Body/Energy Exercises will help your kids de-stress, release tension, boost awareness, and calm and balance their nervous systems to increase intellectual receptivity and sense of well-being. We will learn to calm the chaos, tame the frustrations, energize when we are sluggish, and boost our immune systems. By moving our bodies in ways that wake up and balance our brains and energy systems, we are destined to find greater focus to bring out our best!

2) Yoga Poses: Yoga Poses help children develop awareness of their bodies, strength, flexibility, balance, circulation, coordination, and focus. The vast array of postures will keep us interested, and allow for each child to find the poses that speak to their individual body's needs.

3) Games: Children love to learn through play! It is both fun and educational- a great way to recap the poses that we have learned in class. Games are also an important activity that enhances teamwork skills, creative thinking, and bonds the kids together through laughter and play.

4) Time-In: Yoga is about becoming aware of and cherishing our own unique gifts and strengths. We must look with-in to find this special, internal voice. Whether it is through guided meditation, visualization, or compassionate communication amongst the group, we will explore quieting our minds' chatter and self-judgement. We can learn to feel confident about expressing ourselves in healthy ways and being responsible for our ourselves. This quiet, honest, and contemplative time will offer the children time to rest, recharge, reflect, and integrate the information and concepts we explore in yoga and in life.
